Peptide Therapy in Functional Medicine
What Are Peptides?
Peptides are small chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules in the body. We make various peptides in our body. Think of them as tiny building blocks that help your body function better. Unlike bigger, longer chains of amino acids (ie. proteins), peptides are smaller and easier for your body to absorb.

Case Study – BPC-157
A generally very healthy 39-year-old Nourish House Calls member and patient called us looking for help with lingering shin splint pain he was experiencing after starting to extend his running times. It just wasn’t going away with ice/heat or other treatments he was using at home. We came to his home, administered a few injections of the BPC-157 peptide into the affected areas, used the MLS laser, and the pain resolved completely within 2 days. Since we were already working with him, he was optimized in terms of his hormones and nutrient levels, nutrition was on point, and we were working on improving sleep. He was in a perfect position to maximally benefit from this treatment – and he did! The shin splint went away and hasn’t come back (about 7.5 months ago, as of this post).
Case Study – Semaglutide
A 52-year-old woman had tried everything to lose fat. She optimized hormones (with help from Nourish House Calls). She was doing a good job of prioritizing protein and produce, and lifting weights–NOT doing excessive intense cardio–for exercise. The fat she had gained in the previous few years just was not budging despite doing “everything right.” This was especially true for her bothersome belly fat. She felt discouraged and frustrated. We started her on a low dose of compounded semaglutide and increased the dose slowly over the next 6 weeks.
She reached her optimal dose–the dose at which she was experiencing weight loss but no side effects–and we kept her at that dose for the next 3 months. She continued to prioritize muscle building exercise, protein and produce intake, and sleep, and lost the desired 35 pounds. We started to spread out her dose of semaglutide to every 2 weeks (instead of every week), and because she had used that time to fine tune current good habits and develop other new good habits while it was easier on semaglutide, she was able to stick with those changes and maintain her fat loss. She was thankful to have a prescriber who knew exactly how to prescribe so that she experienced all the benefits of semaglutide, but not the negative side effects.
